One of the first questions people often ask about Lake Anna is the different between the Private Side and the Public Side.
The private side encompasses all of the land to the south and west of Dikes 1, 2, and 3 on the southern portion of Lake Anna. This side is not accessible from the main lake via water and there are no commercial businesses allowed along the shore of the private side. There are also no public boat launches on the private side, you must be a property owner to access the private side. The private side is also called the “warm side” because treated water used from Dominion’s North Anna Power Plant is distributed here and the water temperature is usually several degrees warmer than the public side or “cold side”.
The public side is where you’ll find the waterfront businesses and amenities such as Lake Anna marinas, gas stations and general stores.
